A one-bedroom base in Guadalajara for the agave route

For two people doing a tequila and agave trip out of Guadalajara, the one-bedroom to look at is the Luxury Urban Apartment. One bedroom, sleeps four, in the Chapultepec area, with a jacuzzi, a balcony, and a dedicated workspace if one of you has a call to take. It's the only true one-bedroom in our Guadalajara inventory, which makes this an unusually short recommendation: that's the apartment, and the rest of this page is about how to use it.
Why a city apartment beats sleeping in Tequila town
People planning this trip often assume they should stay out in Tequila itself. Most of them regret it by the second night. The distilleries are a day's business, not an evening's. Tequila town sits about an hour northwest of Guadalajara on Highway 15D, and Amatitán, where Casa Herradura occupies the old Hacienda San José del Refugio, is a shorter run up the same road. You can be at either by mid-morning and back in the city for dinner without the day feeling rushed.
Staying in Guadalajara also keeps the trains available to you. The José Cuervo Express leaves Guadalajara Station on Saturday mornings for the Tequila Valley, roughly four hours of scenic track with tastings along the way, and the Tequila Herradura Express runs Saturdays up to Amatitán. The Sauza-run Tequila Express operates Friday through Sunday on a two-hour ride through the agave fields. Schedules shift by season, so confirm days and departure times with the operator before you build a trip around one. The point is that all of them start in the city, which is where your bed should be.
What the apartment actually gives you
The Luxury Urban Apartment is a furnished one-bedroom in Chapultepec, a neighbourhood thick with bars and restaurants, which matters more than it sounds: after a day of tastings you want to walk to dinner, not drive. The building has a skybar with the city spread out below it, and a gym downstairs.
- Jacuzzi and hot tub in the apartment. After a full day on the agave road this is the amenity you'll actually use.
- Wine glasses and a fridge, which is the honest answer to where the bottles you buy in Tequila end up before you fly home.
- Air conditioning, a balcony, and blackout-free mornings aside, a dedicated workspace for anyone stretching the trip across a working week.
- Coffee and a coffee maker, a microwave, toaster, fridge and cooking basics, so breakfast happens before the 10am train rather than after it.
- Garage and paid parking, worth knowing if you're renting a car for the Amatitán and Teuchitlán runs.
It sleeps four on one bedroom, so a second couple can join without a second booking, though two people get the run of it. There's a garage for a rental car and an elevator, and the apartment is pet-friendly for animals up to 15 kg.
Days worth building around it
The whole agave corridor, Tequila, El Arenal and Amatitán, sits inside a UNESCO-listed landscape of agave fields, and the view from the highway is half the reason to go. In Tequila town, La Rojeña is the oldest distillery in Latin America and still central to José Cuervo's production; Mundo Cuervo, the visitor complex around it, is in the middle of town. Casa Herradura's estate at Amatitán is the other kind of visit: older architecture, a working factory behind it, and Tequila town only a short hop north if you want both in one day.
If you want a day away from distilleries, the Guachimontones archaeological site at Teuchitlán is about an hour's drive west and pairs well with the route. Back in the city, the Las 9 Esquinas quarter and the Museo Puente de las Damas are both worth an afternoon on foot, and our Mexicaltzingo lofts sit a few blocks from them, which tells you how compact central Guadalajara really is.
If one bedroom turns out to be too few
Tequila trips have a way of acquiring passengers. If friends join, the Guadalajara portfolio opens up considerably at two bedrooms, and the choice splits by neighbourhood rather than by size.
In Chapultepec, Lujo y ubicación en Chapultepec 67 sleeps six and keeps the hot tub and skybar, so you lose nothing by trading up. Modern Apartment in Chapultepec - 401 is the same building concept with a proper kitchen for six.
Over in Mexicaltzingo, the lofts run on a different logic: colonial streets, a neighbourhood market, and that famous Guadalajara nieve de garrafa within walking distance. 2 Recámaras y Terraza en Zona Premium is a few steps from Las 9 Esquinas and the Puente de las Damas museum, with a rooftop terrace over the city, a coworking area, a gym, and an assigned underground parking space. Deluxe Double Apartment with Patio - 110 adds a patio and free parking, plus a high chair if the group includes a small person.
Booking, arriving, and the bits that trip people up
Everything runs on self check-in and self check-out, with remote guest support rather than a front desk. That's a real advantage when your Saturday train gets back late and a real nuisance if you arrive without having done the paperwork, so read the arrival instructions when they land rather than in the taxi.
Book directly with us and there are no platform fees in the middle. Rates in Guadalajara sit at the modest end for a furnished apartment in a central neighbourhood, with taxes and fees on top, and longer stays carry a weekly cleaning charge. Before you commit, check the current calendar for your dates: a single one-bedroom fills quickly in the months when the valley trains are running every weekend.
Vive Properties manages all of it locally, which is why the apartment is cleaned professionally between stays and why someone on this side of the border answers when you message.
